BiDi loggers: precision monitoring for a sustainable and efficient drinking water network

FAST is expanding its BiDi range, which now includes three models, each designed to adapt to different terrain configurations: radio, LTE-M and LoRaWAN. Each model is available with two types of sensors: an acoustic version, which is ideal for metal pipes, and a hydrophone version designed for all types of pipes, such as PE plastic pipes.

The acoustic version is installed using magnetic fasteners on the network.

For the hydrophone version, the connection is made directly on contact with the water.

BiDi loggers save operators valuable time during installation thanks to a factory-preconfigured “Plug & Play” system. Once deployed, the logger swiftly relays information, enabling the first data to be used the day after it has been put into service.

A system designed with performance and longevity in mind

The loggers are designed to withstand the test of time and enable you to monitor your network regularly for round-the-clock water network surveillance!

Through advanced multipoint correlation and intelligent algorithms capable of filtering out background noise and limiting false positives, BiDi loggers identify leaks at an early stage and pinpoint the exact location of the leak, even on complex networks.

BiDi LTE is the latest version in this range: by combining total network coverage with the power of IoT technologies (LTE-M), this logger offers operators a hybrid solution that safeguards the network’s longevity while also guaranteeing its capacity for future expansion.

The new BiDi LTE version includes a host of key improvements:

This version of the logger features a new analogue circuit that delivers better performance at both low frequencies (<100 Hz) and high frequencies (>1,100 Hz).

It can also be flexibly deployed on all types of pipes, with a range of up to 1 km between two BiDi loggers, making it ideal for both temporary and permanent campaigns.

The logger is designed to withstand the most demanding conditions: its sealed stainless steel casing (IP68) protects it against immersion, shocks and extreme temperature variations.

With its protective shell (optional), the logger is protected from external impacts caused by handling, transport or storage conditions.

Depending on your site configurations, you can choose from a wide range of accessories such as protective covers, remote antennas, and even transport cases, etc.

Centralised monitoring and intelligent data management

BiDi loggers can be viewed from WATERCLOUD, the digital platform that provides centralised monitoring of all the loggers on the network. With this system, operators can manage their networks more intelligently: thanks to its integrated mapping, users get a clear overview of any potential leaks that have been identified. The operator has access to more detailed information through advanced analysis of data measurements collected by the BiDi loggers. With WATERCLOUD, it’s also easy to keep track of what’s going on with a history of noise recordings, as well as the option to set up alarms if there’s a change in the network’s status. From the WATERCLOUD platform, users can export GIS data so that the data can be processed using other management or control tools allowing for better control of their asset management.

The complementary nature of our solutions to support asset management

By combining BiDi with OMEGAFLEX connections and their 4MS Sainte-Lizaigne bronze fittings, for example, each connection point becomes a strategic listening point. This synergy helps to overcome all the acoustic obstacles associated with the nature of PE networks, enabling leaks to be detected and pre-located with precision.

Furthermore, when used with the IN PIPE clamp, an innovative network access device with dual V-shaped inlets, the BiDi becomes essential for detecting leaks: the logger is initially installed on the first inlet of the clamp to pre-locate the leak, and the second inlet can then accommodate the PIPEMIC acoustic probe to more accurately pinpoint the leak. This all-in-one system then becomes a clever, reliable and accurate access solution, capable of providing dual verification in a single operation. This gives the operator extra comfort: as well as saving time during operations, it significantly reduces costs for earthworks needed to keep the drinking water network in good working order.
